If you think the selection process for an appointment in the Irish public service was unfair and in breach of the Code of Practice, you can make a complaint about the process under Section 8 of the code.
Before you make a complaint to the Commission, you must have brought an informal complaint and a formal complaint to the public body that carried out the selection process. It is only after these stages have been followed that you can make a complaint to the Commission.
If the selection process is found to have been unfair, the decision will not be reversed. However, changes may be made to the process to ensure a breach does not happen again.
You must appeal to the Commission within 10 working days of the outcome of the formal complaint. You can do this through the online form below.
The CPSA will examine the complaint and will then decide if the selection process was fair and in keeping with the Code of Practice. If there was an error, the CPSA will recommend or direct the public body to change future selection processes. The Commission's decision can be challenged only through judicial review.
